Read the directions and instructions that come with your power tools before you use them. All tools have rules and precautions for use. Learn these by heart and you’ll always be off to a safe start.

  • Safety Goggles or safety glasses should be used with shields at all times. Dust mask may be used as well for dusty projects. Hearing plugs should be worn when working with power tools to protect your hearing.
  • Loose-fitting clothes may cause injuries and accidents. Remember no loose-fitting clothes, no jewelry, and no neckties should be worn while working with power tools.
  • Tie back long hair and non-slip footwear is recommended.
  • If you are tired, sick, distracted or under the influence of drugs or alcohol save your power tool work for a later time.
  • Neat and clean work areas will make the safest environment while working with power tools. Be sure your area is free of any debris that might catch fire when using power tools.
  • You need to be able to see what you are doing. Plenty of bright light is needed for work with tools.
  • Make sure all power tools are off before you plug them in an outlet.
  • Make sure you use appropriate guards and they are working properly.
  • Before you make any adjustments or changes to your tools make sure they are off and unplugged.
  • Do not use any accessories except accessories specifically recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Never use power tools in wet or damp conditions.
  • Do not use an indoor rated cord for outside work. Also make sure you use a heavy duty cord.
  • Cutters or blades should be clean, sharp and securely in place before you use them. Never use bent, broken, or warped blades or cutters.
  • Do not reach over your power tools while they are in use. Keep your attention on your task at hand and stay in place with both feet on the ground.
  • Make sure you will be able to keep your attention on your project at hand. Plan ahead. Do not rush through or away from your power tool work.
  • Keep a firm grip on your hand held power tools with both hands. Power tools can easily get away and create a hazardous situation. Do not use tools that are too heavy for you.
  • Remember to unplug, clean and put away your tools in a safe place when you’re done with a job. You don’t want anyone to get hurt if it gets into the wrong hands, especially if you are always around children. The safest place to place tools that you are not currently using is in storage. If you are not familiar with this concept, why not check out a company like keepsafe, where you will become a bit more clued up on the benefits of self storage units. Just like with anything, be sure to do your research. You may decide this is the best way for you to store your power tools.
