Some Bladen County residents are still displaced from the damages caused by Hurricane Florence. There are some locals living in homes with black mold growing. Yesterday, Bladen County Emergency Services Director and other emergency officials explained how the effects of Hurricane Florence is hurting Bladen County’s budget.

The 2019-2020 budget has a 300,000 dollar decline in Emergency Management Revenue in large part due to the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. Director Kinlaw, EMS Director David Howell and other EMS officials presented issues Emergency Services are facing due to Hurricane Florence. Kinlaw said all his time and another co-worker’s time is still being spent on hurricane recovery. The EMS officials spoke about the transportation costs and the Bladen County Hospital damages and closings affecting the EMS budget.

While elected officials work on the negative impact from the hurricane to the local budget, another team is working to make progress for the residents still suffering. The Bladen Disaster Recovery Team has heard the cries of local hurricane victims for months now. The newly organized group is striving to make a difference and meet the needs of those in Bladen County devastated by Hurricane Florence.

A new fundraising effort was started on Monday, March 19 at noon through Community Thrives. The goal for Bladen Disaster Recovery Team is to raise $10,000 by April 14 through the online campaign. The funds raised will be used to assist hurricane victims in Bladen County.

The organizers of the fundraiser want to remind supporters, “When you give, you are doing more than giving money, you’re restoring hope to families affected by Hurricane Florence. ”

One of the Bladen County storm victims explained the devastation well by saying, “You work hard all of your life to have something and all of a sudden, its gone.”
