Some Bladen County incumbents saw their time in office dwindle away with Tuesday night’s election results.

Incumbent Bladen County Commissioner Wayne Edge and his wife, Anita, left the courthouse after learning of his loss to Kenneth Register Jr. in the race for Bladen County Commissioner District 3.  Register will now face Republican candidate Ashley S. Trivette in November.

Incumbent Countywide Commissioners G. Michael Cogdell and Jimmie Smith will be joined by fellow Democrat Pam Benton on the ballot in November.

Jimmie Smith said, “It’s not over. We still have the election in November.”

They will now face Republicans Billy Ray Britt and David Gooden and Libertarian candidate Randy Crow in November.

In the Bladen County Board of Education District 2 race, former Board of Education member Berry Lewis defeated incumbent Board of Education Chairman Wilbur Smith. Lewis will also face no opposition in the November election and will take office in December.

Lewis said, “I look forward to serving our teachers, parents and students of Bladen County Schools.”

In the County Commissioner District 1 race, Ophelia Munn-Goins defeated fellow Dem. Anthony “Amp” McKoy. Munn-Goins currently serves on the Bladen County Board of Education. She will face no opposition in November and will take office in December.

In the County Commmissioner District 2 race, incumbent Daniel Dowless faces no opposition in November.

In the Bladen County Board of Education District 1 race, former Board of Education member Glenn C. McKoy defeated fellow Democrat Sabrina Murchison. McKoy will face no opposition in November and will be sworn in in December.

In  the Board of Education District 3 race, Bonnell Walker faces no opposition in November.

In the race for NC House District 22, incumbent William Brisson defeated fellow Dem. Ben Snyder. In Bladen County, however, Snyder received 2,725 votes to Brisson’s 2,323 votes. Overall, Brisson received 4,629 votes to Snyder’s 4,027 votes.

In the NC House District 46 race, Republican Brenden Jones, Dem. Tim Benton and Lib. Thomas Howell Jr. will face off for the seat vacated by Rep. Ken Waddell.

The voters in the town of White Lake voted in favor of allowing the “on premises” and “off premises” the sale of unfortified wine and malt beverages.

Pastor Cameron McGill against the Beer & Wine Referendum said, “It’s a sad day at White Lake. The water is no longer clear and the morals no longer clean.”

The Connect NC Bond also passed and the sales tax referendum was once again defeated in Bladen County.
