Spread the love

If your golf game is not what you want it to be … maybe you should switch from a two-handed swing to a one-handed swing. That is exactly what Ty Dickerson did.

About six years ago Ty, who is from Stedman, had an accident in his home that left him unable to use his left hand. Before being injured Ty had an eight handicap. He enjoyed playing golf so much that he was determined to continue his pursuit of the game he loved.

Every weekend you can find him playing golf somewhere. Ty stated “I enjoy playing at Vineyard Golf. The greens are immaculate, the grounds crew does not make the course real hard for the average player, and the people at Vineyard are fantastic. They make you feel very comfortable when you show up to play.”

Ty, who spent three years in Afghanistan as a contract Force Protector with Special Forces, now shoots “anywhere from 85-94, but sometime higher.” The lowest score he has ever shot was a 77 at a course is Missouri.

When watching Ty on the driving range at Vineyard Golf his driver flies around 200-230 yards. He was getting a lesson from pro Kayla Thompson. Kayla stated “In order for Ty to hit the ball one-handed he must have quite a bit on strength in his right hand. He makes a real good turn on his swing creating good speed on his clubhead. It certainly is unique to watch him, with such a good swing, to get the ball the distance he does.”

Ty is now retired from the tree service company he owned.

After finishing his lesson with Kayla he joined a group of local players. After nine holes he went back to the range to practice “what Kayla had taught him to do.”
