Magnifier Feature

I just found a handy new feature is iOS10. There were tons of features release and I missed this one. With a triple-click of the home button you can invoke the magnifier feature. If you are over 50 years old, this will be your new BFF!!

It has several internal features that are handy as well. On the main screen you will find a slider for magnification level that is very powerful. On the bottom left is the light on/off button. Next is the “lock” button which locks the focus at a specific distance. The big round button is a freeze frame button. You can freeze frame and then increase the magnification. The triple circle on the right takes you to color and contrast options on the 2nd screenshot.

Across the top, you can or change colors to dual color options that make your freeze frame more readable. Below that, you can change the brightness and contrast sliders. The bottom left button inverts colors from positive to negative for readability.magnifier mouse

To set it up, go to Settings/ General/Accessibility and you will find Magnifier near the top of the list. Toggle it on. You can call up the Magnifier from the lock screen as well. Triple-click is a fast click so practice.

SOS 911 Call Feature

If you are not getting tired of updating iOS10 to new version fixes, there is a minor version update coming which is 10.2. This version will include a 911 call feature that is handy. To call 911, you will press the home button 5 times and then confirm the call before it’s placed to authorities.

iPhone 7 Home Button

Some of you have purchased an iPhone 7 already, My contract is not up until December and I plan to get the larger plus version to get the 2 camera option. Since the 7’s are water resistant, there are a couple of changes like no headphone jack and a new home button.

My neighbor said he’s having a hard time pressing the the home button and in fact the tactile feel and travel distance of the button are different. I did not like the feel vs the trademark iPhone home button but I will get used to it. The iPhone 7 can go in the shower and be dropped in a puddle or a drink and survive. choose-click

If you want to change the pressure and feedback from the button, Go to Settings/General/Home Button. Try the different levels of of pressure and feedback and then click done. The feel you get when you push the button is called “haptics” in case you see that on the screen.

Filter Options in Mail

There’s a new icon in the bottom left corner of your mail folder screen that allows some filtering of email showing on your screen. Click on filter and then filter choices appear at the bottom middle of the screen.

Find Your Car At The Mall- The New Maps App

The map app in the new OS has a lot of new features. It’s said that Apple Maps is a few steps ahead of Google Maps now. I do like the new automatic “find my parked car” feature. The map app doesn’t have to be on for the feature to work. And if it’s really important, check the map as you walk away from the car to make sure your car is located.

When you open the app, a couple of suggestions come up at the bottom of the screen which include Parked Car. The phone know when you are moving and when you stop so a parked car location is determined. And if your car is blocks or miles away, you can get directions to the car.

You can disable this feature by going to Settings/Maps and turning it off.
