In a unanimous decision, the Bladen County Board of Education approved an early start calendar for the 2020-2021 school year at their December 9 board meeting.

The 2020-2021 school year will begin on August 10 for teachers and students will return to classes on August 17. By having an earlier start date to the school year, first semester exams will be administered before the winter holiday break. Additionally, the August 17 start date will align high school classes with the community college start date; an ongoing challenge since Bladen County Schools first implemented an articulation agreement with Bladen Community College to offer dual-enrollment courses (what is now referred to as the career and college promise program).

With an earlier start date, the school year will also end earlier. The last day for students will be May 26 and for teachers, it will be June 2, with optional teacher workdays on June 3 and 4: An earlier start to the summer for everyone!

Holidays and breaks will not be affected by the earlier start and end dates. Students and staff will still have the same number of days for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter break.
