Bladen County voters are heading to the polls today to cast a ballot in the primary election. Polls will be open at the 17 precincts until 7:30 p.m. Click here for a list of precincts.

Bladen Online will post results tonight as soon as the numbers are available.

There were 3,131 votes cast during the early voting period from Feb. 13-29, which is about 14% of eligible voters in Bladen County.

Voters will decide by party affiliation candidates for November’s general election from president, national and state legislatures, state council, judges, county commissioner and school board members.

Only those races where more candidates from a party have filed than seats available will be on the primary ballot.

Primaries are needed for three Bladen County Board of Commissioner races.

Democrat incumbent G. Michael Cogdell and challengers Mark Gillespie, William H. Moore and Greg Taylor have filed for the three county-wide commissioner seats. The top three vote-getters in the primary will advance to the November election and face Republican incumbents Ray Britt and David Gooden.

In District 3, there will be primaries for both parties. James G. (Jimmie) Smith and Steve Peterson will vie for the Democrat nomination. On the Republican ticket, Judy Bowen, Danny L. Ellis and Ken Register Jr. will be on the ballot. The winners of each primary will meet in the general election for the seat currently held by Ashley Trivette. Trivette decided not to seek re-election.

There will be a Republican primary for the District 2 seat between incumbent Daniel Ross Dowless and Rodney Hester. No Democrat filed in the district so the March winner will run unopposed in November.

During the early voting period, the Bladen County Board of Elections office in Elizabethtown had 2,193 votes recorded, Spaulding Monroe in Bladenboro had 636 and East Arcadia Town Hall had 302.
