Jackie Hyland

RALEIGH, N.C. — The State Board of Elections today announced that it has hired veteran reporter and anchor Jackie Hyland as the agency’s public information officer. Hyland spent more than two decades covering national and local news in New York, Dallas, and Raleigh,most recently at the CBS-affiliate WRAL in Raleigh.

“Jackie brings a wealth of experience to the position,” said Executive Director Kim Westbrook Strach. “We are thrilled she chose to serve our state’s voters during a critical time for elections in North Carolina.”

Hyland reported extensively from Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks and has covered politics, protests, and court proceedings on air. She is the recipient of two Emmy awards and has been recognized by the Associated Press for her work. (Full bio available online).

From the rollout of voter ID to investigations and the presidential election, I look forward to keeping the public informed,said Hyland.

Hyland was born in New York but spent a decade in Ireland with her family before returning stateside to attend St. John’s University, where she studied communications and minored in business.She is married and is the mother of two daughters.

Hyland succeeds Josh Lawson who was promoted to general counsel in August. Her start date is Wednesday, December 9.Contact information will be forthcoming.
