The Bladen County Board of Education’s meeting room was converted into a makeshift jail on Thursday for a worthy cause as the Bladen County Education Foundation held their annual Jail-A-Thon to raise money for Bladen County Public Schools.

Judge David Wall presided over the “court’ and read the charges against those who were “arrested” and brought into the courtroom.

Just a few of those who took part in the fun included:

**Melinda Coughlin, who was recently selected as Teacher of the Year at West Bladen High School, was facing charges stemming from her math courses. She teaches math at the school. Judge Wall read the charge against Coughlin of altering math test scores and said there was no evidence she had done this before.

**Ashley Trivette was brought in by Elizabethtown Police Investigator Dwayne Cheshire. Judge Wall read the charges against her and they consisted of distribution of illegal steroids and herbal supplements.

The staff of Bladen Online did not escape the long arm of the law.

** Erin Smith, Editor of Bladen Online, also faced Judge Wall. He read the charges of criminal libel for her work at both the Bladen Journal and Bladen Online.

We have on good authority that Bladen Journal Editor W. Curt Vincent was also captured during the event.

After much laughter, a few telephone calls to friends, and some last minute negotiations with Judge Wall, everyone was allowed to return to their jobs and the event was pronounced a rousing success.
