East Bladen Coach Jay Raynor was recognized as the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association Region 6 2017 Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year in a ceremony Sunday in Raleigh.

Coach Raynor led the Eagles to a perfect 14-0 league record and the 2017 Three Rivers Conference Men’s Soccer Championship. East Bladen finished with a 21-2 overall record.

It was the first NCSCA Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year for Raynor who received the 2013 Girls Soccer Region Coach of the Year.

The Eagles racked up 144 goals this season – a total that was fifth best in the state and seventh best in the country. East Bladen allowed only 14 goals this season – the lowest total in the state and 27th best in the country.

The 144 goals scored and only 14 goals allowed were both school records. The East Bladen defense recorded 15 shutouts – another school record.

Fifteen different Eagles scored at least one goal. Six players scored double-digit goals. Seven Eagles dished out double-digit assists and sixteen players recorded at least one assist. “Those numbers are hard to believe,” said Coach Raynor.

Five of the East Bladen players were named to the All-Region 6 team. Raynor also received the Three Rivers Conference Coach of the Year award.
