CERRO GORDO – Scott Bowen belted a three-run homer, Cameron Peterson drove in four runs, and Trey Storms pitched a five-hit complete game Tuesday afternoon as the West Bladen junior varsity team routed West Columbus 15-7 in the consolation game of the Jiggs Powers Memorial Baseball Tournament at West Columbus High School.

West Bladen, 5-2, is scheduled to host Clinton on Tuesday as the Knights return to Four County 1A/2A Conference play. West Bladen is 2-1 in the conference.

Storms, a right-hander, struck out three, walked four and hit three batters in notching the win on the mound for West Bladen. He allowed only two runs and two hits over the final five innings.

Bowen was 2-for-4, including his three-run homer over the left-field fence in the second inning. Peterson also was 2-for-4, including a a run-scoring single in the second, a two-run single in the third and a run-producing fielder’s choice in the sixth. Caleb Sholar was 2-for-2 with a double and RBI. Ian Sykes was 2-for-4. Donald McCullum, Hunter Pait and Johnathan Robinson each had a hit for the Knights.

Bowen and Sholar each scored three runs, Johnathan Ashworth, courtesy runner Jaquale Jessup, and Sykes each scored twice. McCullum, Pait and Peterson also scored a run apiece. Ray Jones, McCullum and Robinson each had a run batted in.

West Bladen scored once in the top of the first when Bowen opened with a single up the middle, advanced to third on a pair of ground outs, and scored on an error. West Columbus scored twice in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead.

West Bladen scored four runs in the second on a pair of walks, Peterson’s single to left, and Bowen’s three-run blast. However, West Columbus tied it at 5-5 with three runs in the bottom of the second.

Peterson’s two-run single in the third inning gave the Knights a 7-5 lead. West Bladen extended it to 10-5 in the fourth on singles by Pait, Robinson and Sholar along with a pair of West Columbus errors.

The Knights made it 12-5 in the fifth on a single by Sykes, an error, a RBI groundout by Jones and a sacrifice fly from McCullum.

West Bladen added to its lead with three more runs in the sixth on two walks, a pair of errors and two fielder’s choice that made the score 15-5. West Columbus scored twice in the bottom of the sixth.
