Former West Bladen star John Bowen is continuing his basketball career at Elon this season while pursuing a Masters in Business Analytics. Bowen has played in 24 games, started 8 games and is playing 17 minutes per game.

The 6-9 graduate student is shooting 52.4% from the field while averaging 3.3 points and 3.4 rebounds. He has made four 3-point shots and recorded 10 steals, 10 assists and 7 blocked shots this season.

In Elon’s 77-64 loss to East Tennessee State in the Asheville Championship Tournament, Bowen slammed in 6 dunks, drained a 3-point shot and another jumper and finished with 17 points on 8 of 9 shooting while grabbing 4 rebounds.

Other top performances by the Bladenboro native include: 6 points, 4 rebounds at Jacksonville State; 4 points and 9 rebounds in narrow loss to UNC-Greensboro; 6 points, 3 rebounds in 71-66 loss at Valparaiso; 10 rebounds and 4 points at UNC-Wilmington.

Saturday, Bowen claimed 4 rebounds in a 74-73 victory for the Phoenix at Northeastern. Elon, 3-8 in the Colonial Athletic Association and 5-19 overall, will travel to Greensboro Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest against North Carolina A&T.

After graduating from West Bladen, Bowen played 2 seasons at Belmont Abbey where he averaged 9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in his sophomore season as the Crusaders posted a 23-8 record. In 2019-2020, Bowen played in 28 games for UNC-Wilmington.
