Former West Bladen star John Bowen has played a key role this season for the Conference Carolinas leading Belmont Abbey Crusaders.

Bowen has contributed 7.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.7 blocked shots per game while playing 22 minutes. The Bladenboro native has started 10 games as the Crusaders have posted a perfect 8-0 league record and 14-3 overall mark.

Saturday Bowen grabbed 5 rebounds in a 67-50 victory over Southern Wesleyan. The 6-8 forward totaled 6 points and 6 rebounds in an 83-75 win over Lees-McRae and tallied 7 points in a 101-94 victory over Erskine.

In December Bowen tossed in 7 points in a 65-63 win over Tusculum and finished with 8 points and 5 rebounds in an 80-77 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne. The tall sophmore added 7 points and 7 rebounds in a 92-74 victory over Limestone.

Bowen’s best overall game came in an 85-78 win over Johnson C. Smith when he recorded 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks. His season-high point-total was 15 in a 77-58 victory over Coker.

The Crusaders will host Christendom in a non-conference game Wednesday night.
