WILMINGTON – Former West Bladen star John Bowen scored 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds Saturday, but his UNC-Wilmington Seahawks dropped an 82-73 decision to Hofstra in Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball action.

 

Bowen dropped in a pair of 1st half lay-ups then put back an offensive rebound to keep the Seahawks within 29-26. Hofstra led 39-36 at halftime.

 

The Bladenboro native slammed in a dunk on a fast-break in the 2nd half then turned a Jamahri Harvey assist into another lay-up to keep UNCW ahead 51-49. Bowen pulled down his 4th offensive rebound of the game and muscled it back in to push the Seahawk lead to 55-51 with 12:35 left to play.

 

Sunday the Seahawks dropped another close game to the Pride 89-83. Bowen sank a free throw to edge UNCW in front 41-40 with 3:05 left in the 1st half, but Hofstra answered with a 9-0 run.

 

Bowen finished with 3 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and a steal in 23 minutes of action.

 

The Seahawks will travel to Elon for 4 p.m. games Saturday and Sunday.
