FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – West Bladen grad John Bowen scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds Sunday but his Belmont Abbey Crusaders were defeated 75-72 by Emmanuel in the Conference Carolinas Tournament championship game.
Bowen dropped in a 3-point play just before halftime, but the Crusaders still trailed 42-32 at intermission. Belmont Abbey pulled to within 74-72 with 15.9 seconds left, but a tying attempt at the buzzer missed.
Emmanuel secured the Conference Carolinas automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament with the victory. Belmont Abbey finished 23-8 but did not receive an at-large bid to the tournament when the bids were announced Sunday night.
