Intro to Carolina Bays

Join a ranger and learn about the geological mysteries of the Carolina Bays. Formation theories,

and the natural communities associated with Carolina Bays will be discussed. Participants

should meet at the Park Visitor center at 10:00 am. This event is free of charge and open to the

Ever wonder what snakes species are at home in eastern North Carolina? Which ones are venomous?

Join a park ranger at the Visitor Center in exploring the various snakes in this area and the other unique

species found throughout our great state. Participants should meet at the Jones Lake State Park Visitor

Center at 10:00 am. Call the park office @ (910) 588-4550 for more information. This event is free of

charge and open to the general public.

June 18, 2016 @ 3:00pm

Join a park ranger for a discussion on Jones Lake’s largest mammal…..the black bear. Learn

about the biology and habits of the king of the forest. Participants should meet at the Jones

Lake State Park Visitor Center at 3:00 pm. This program is free to the public. If you have any

questions please call the park office @ (910) 588-4550.

What would you do if you got lost and only had a compass? Have you got a compass and do not know

what direction to go? Join a park ranger at 9:00 am for discussion on all the Cardinal points of using a

compass. Participants will use the skills on a compass course. If you make it through the course your

bearings will surely be greased! Compasses will be provided. Space is limited, so please call the park

office at (910) 588-4550 to reserve your spot or for questions.

Jones Lake State Park is offering a viewing of an installment of “Planet Earth”. The viewing will

be located at the Visitor Center at 8:30 pm and is free to the public. Bring the family, chairs,
