Learn about the Carolina Bays, snakes and take a canoe hike during programs in October at Jones Lake State Park.

CAROLINA BAY HIKE

Oct. 15, 10 a.m.: Join a park ranger and learn about the geological mysteries of the Carolina Bays. Formation theories and the natural communities associated with Carolina Bays will be discussed. Participants should meet at the Visitor Center.

SNAKES

Oct. 23, 10 a.m.: Ever wonder what snakes’ species are at home in eastern North Carolina? Which ones are venomous? Join a park ranger at the Visitor Center to explore the various snakes in this area and other unique species found throughout the state.

CANOE HIKE

Oct. 29, 2 p.m.: Join a park ranger for a guided paddle around Jones Lake. The program will be limited to 11 people. Reservations are required. A canoe, paddle and life jacket will be provided. It is recommended that you bring drinking water, bug spray and a change of clothes. You must be able to swim and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The program can be cancelled on short notice due to weather conditions.
