PEMBROKE – A walk and 2 errors produced the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning and lifted Purnell Swett to a 6-5 Jr. American Legion baseball victory over West Bladen on Thursday.

West Bladen had jumped in front 4-0 in the 1st inning. Garrett Dunham walked, and Brady Durden smoked a single to center field. An out later Jordan Hester’s fielder’s choice plated Dunham. Ashton Davis reached on an error that scored Brady Durden. Tyler Lewis walked. Both runners moved up on a passed ball and an error on Jackson Smith’s grounder scored Davis and Lewis.

An error and singles by M. Brewer and G. Jones produced a pair of Swett runs in the bottom of the first.

Dunham drew a lead-off walk in the 2nd inning, stole 2nd and 3rd bases and raced home when Hester lined a single to left to pad the Knight lead to 5-2.

G. Jones and J. Jacobs drew walks in the Rams 6th inning. Both runners stole a base then both of them scored on passed balls to trim the margin to 5-4.

M. Brewer was hit by a pitch in the 7th inning, stole 2nd, advanced on an error and scored the tying run on J. Chavis’ sacrifice fly.

Cade Allen pitched the 1st 4 innings for West allowing a pair of unearned runs on 3 hits and 5 walks while striking out 3. Davis worked 2.1 innings of relief giving up 3 runs – 1 earned – on a hit and 3 walks while striking out 2. Brady Durden pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief allowing a hit and a walk while striking out 4. Aiden Russ gave up an unearned run on a walk and 2 errors.

Brady Durden batted 2-for-5 with a run scored to lead the West hitters. Hester singled and had 2 RBIs. Dunham scored 2 runs, and Davis and Lewis scored 1 run each.

The Knights had dropped a rain-delayed game Tuesday night at West Brunswick 3-0 and are now 0-2 on the season. West Bladen is scheduled to host Wilmington Ashley Monday at 7 p.m.
