CLINTON – Clinton defeated East Bladen 6-3 Thursday in Four County Conference jayvee baseball action.

It was only the second conference loss for the Eagles –both losses have been to Clinton. East Bladen is now 8-2 in league play and 10-3 overall.

The Dark Horses capitalized on two errors for a first inning run then used 3 hits, 2 errors and a walk to pad their lead to 5-0 in the second.

The Eagles cracked the scoring column in the third. Freshman Shy Pone walked and raced home on freshman Pierce Melvin’s single to trim the lead to 5-1.

After Clinton tacked on a run in the fifth, the Eagles answered with 2 runs in the sixth. Freshman Spencer Scott and sophmore Tanner Meares belted singles, and Rhett Burney hammered a 2-run triple that scored both runners and trimmed the margin.

Burney’s 2-run triple led the Eagle hitters. Pone, Melvin, Brooks McGill, Scott Howell, Scott and Meares smacked one hit each. Melvin had a run batted in, and Pone, Scott and Meares scored one run each.

Devan Stocks pitched for East Bladen and allowed only 3 hits and 2 walks, but 6 errors hampered the Eagle cause. Stocks struck out 3 batters.

The Eagle jayvees will host Heide Trask Tuesday at 4 p.m.
