ELIZABETHTOWN – Sophmore Devan Stocks pitched a 5-hit shutout and knocked in the winning run to lead East Bladen to a 1-0 Four County Conference jayvee baseball victory over West Bladen Saturday.

Davis Alsup led off the Eagle sixth inning with a single to centerfield then stole second base. Freshman Dan Tatum beat out an infield hit to shortstop that sent Alsup to third base.

After an intentional walk to freshman Pierce Melvin loaded the bases, Stocks drilled a bases-clearing triple to left-centerfield. However, since the game ended when Alsup touched home plate and Stocks touched first base, the score was officially 1-0.

Stocks struck out 7 batters, walked 2 and hit one. Sophmore Trey Storms pitched a 5-hitter for West Bladen. Storms walked two and struck out two.

Stocks batted 2-3 with a run batted in to lead the Eagle hitters. Rhett Burney, Alsup and Dan Tatum belted one single each. Alsup scored the only run.

Sophmore Jonathan Robinson walloped a double and finished 2-3 at the plate to lead the Knight hitters. Sophmore Ian Sykes, Brandon Strange and Dalton Pait added one hit each to the West Bladen attack.

Strange’s opposite-field single to left and a walk to Sykes put 2 runners on base with two out in the West third inning, but a force-out at third ended the inning.

Dan Tatum reached base on an error with 2 out in the East third inning and stole second base. However a ground-out ended the inning.

Robinson ripped his double to start the West fourth. Freshman Dalton Pait beat out a bunt single, and Justin Nickle walked. Robinson was forced out at the plate on a bunt, and Eagle firstbaseman Holden Clark snagged Sykes’ line drive to end the inning.

In the Eagle fourth, Stocks belted a single to right-centerfield, but Knight secondbaseman Pait started a double play with a flip to shortstop Shawn Oxendine who fired the ball to firstbaseman Sykes to end the inning.

Sykes legged out an infield hit, and Robinson smacked a single to right with 2 out in the West fifth inning, but a ground out retired the side.

Burney started the Eagle fifth with a single to right and advanced on Scott Howell’s sacrifice bunt, but was thrown out at third base on a steal attempt by West catcher Jalen Drew.

The Eagle jayvees finished their season with an 11-2 league record and a 13-3 overall mark. The West Bladen jayvees were 11-10 overall.
