BURGAW – Freshman Spencer Scott pitched a 3-hitter and freshman Pierce Melvin drove in 4 runs to lead East Bladen to an 11-1 Four County Conference jayvee baseball victory over Pender Tuesday.

The game was stopped after 4 innings due to the mercy rule. Scott struck out five, walked four and hit 2 batters.

The Eagles jumped in front with 2 runs in the first. Shy Pone hammered a triple, and Dan Tatum knocked him in with a single. Sophmore Devan Stocks slammed a double to drive in Dan Tatum.

Marshall Tatum and Scott Howell smacked one-out singles in the East Bladen second inning, and Dan Tatum drew a 2-out walk. Melvin blasted a bases-clearing double to stretch the Eagle lead to 5-0.

Scott laced a one-out single in the third inning. Tanner Meares walloped a triple that scored Scott, and Meares dashed home on Chancy’s fielder’s choice for a 7-0 lead.

Dan Tatum walked and stole second base to begin the Eagle fourth inning. Melvin knocked in Dan Tatum with a single, and Scott walked. Chancy delivered a 2-run single that plated Melvin and Scott. Marshall Tatum cracked a single that brought home Chancy with the final East Bladen run.

Melvin batted 2-3 with a double, 4 runs batted in and a run scored. Marshall Tatum finished 2-3 at the plate with an rbi and a run scored. Pone smashed the triple and scored a run, Meares slugged a triple, drove in a run and scored one.

Stocks swatted an rbi double, and Dan Tatum, Scott, Chancy and Howell connected for one hit each. Dan Tatum scored 3 runs and drove in one. Scott scored twice, Chancy drove in 3 runs and scored one, and Howell scored a run.

The East Bladen jayvees improved to 8-1 in league play and 10-2 overall. The Eagles travel to Clinton Thursday for a 4 p.m. game.
