East Bladen High SchoolXavier Wooten pitched 3 scoreless innings to close out a 16-10 non-conference jayvee baseball victory for East Bladen over visiting St. Pauls Wednesday.

Wooten took the mound with the Eagles clinging to a 12-10 lead in the fifth inning and struck out 5 batters to keep the Bulldogs at bay the rest of the way.

Tanner Meares started on the hill for East Bladen and took a 12-2 lead into the fourth inning. Quinton Bedsole relieved Meares in the fourth inning, and Daniel Elkins also pitched in the fourth inning for East as the Eagles tried to halt an 8-run St. Pauls rally.

Meares picked up the pitching victory and also led the Eagle hitters with 2 hits in his 4 at-bats. B. J. Robinson and Rhett Burney both batted a perfect 1-1 for the winners.

Teammates Wooten, Bedsole and Michael Walter all finished 1-2 at the plate, and Devon Stocks turned in a 1-3 day at the plate.

The Eagle jayvees improved to 2-1 with the victory and will travel to Union Thursday at 4 p.m. to begin their Four County Conference schedule.
