ELIZABETHTOWN- Britt Sasser and Carson Gooden combined to pitch a 2-hitter and strike out 8 batters, and East Bladen’s offense pounded out 12 hits in a 19-2 non-conference jayvee baseball victory over West Bladen Tuesday.

Sasser pitched the first 3 innings and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out six. Gooden struck out 2 batters as he worked a hitless 4th inning.

At the plate Sasser slammed 2 doubles, scored a run and drove in 2 runs. Tyler Johnson hammered a double and a single for the Eagles, scored 2 runs and had a run batted in. Teammate Marian Davis blasted a triple, scored 3 times and had 2 RBIs. Zamar Lewis walloped a triple, had an RBI and scored twice.

Weston Hatcher drilled a double and drove in 2 runs for the Eagles. Darius Williamson slugged a double and had 2 RBIs. Parker Greene, Gooden, Jmarius Smith, and Jake Futrell connected for one single each for the winners. Futrell, Greene and Natoren Corbett scored 2 runs each. Smith, Nathan Howell and Gooden scored 1 run each. Gooden and Smith had 1 RBI each.

Jordan Underwood batted a perfect 2-for-2 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored to lead the Knight hitters. Cornelius Esters scored the other Knight run. Underwood lined a single to left to lead off the game. Garrison Carr was hit by a pitch, and Andre Moore walked, before Underwood raced home on a wild pitch for a 1-0 West lead.

Davis reached on an error in the Eagle 1st inning, and Johnson drove him home with a double to left. Lewis crushed a triple to center field that plated Johnson. Williamson smashed a double that scored Lewis, and Sasser yanked a double to left that scored Williamson and pushed the Eagle lead to 4-1.

Esters walked and scampered home to trim the lead to 4-2, when Underwood launched his triple to deep center field.

The Eagles exploded for 8 runs in the 2nd inning. Futrell led off with a single, and Davis reached on an error. Johnson cracked an infield hit to load the bases. Hatcher mashed a double to left that scored Futrell and Davis. Johnson scored on an error, but Hatcher was retired on an appeal play.

Williamson walked, and Greene reached on an error. Williamson sprinted home on an error, and Sasser swatted a double that brought home Greene. Corbett reached on an error as Sasser scored. Futrell was hit by a pitch, and Davis hammered a triple to left that scored Corbett and Futrell and stretched the lead to 12-2.

Lewis was hit by a pitch in the 3rd inning and darted home on Smith’s single to right. Greene rapped a single off the pitcher, and Gooden raked a single to third that scored Smith. Greene galloped home on a wild pitch, and Corbett walked. Gooden dashed home on a wild pitch as Davis walked. Corbett and Davis sprinted home on wild pitches, and Nathan Howell walked and later scored on a wild pitch.

Garrison Carr started on the mound for West Bladen and was relieved by Kaden Revels, Nolan Tatum and Jordan Hester.

Coach Kenzil McCall’s Eagles remain undefeated at 5-0 on the season and will travel to Whiteville Friday for their conference opener. West Bladen, now 2-2, will visit Fairmont Friday for their TRC opener.
