East Bladen High SchoolELIZABETHTOWN – Zach Meares walked and scored the winning run in the fifth inning as East Bladen edged West Bladen 2-1 Friday in Three Rivers Conference jayvee baseball action.

With the score tied 1-1, Xavier McKoy and Jacob Priest drew walks to begin the Eagle fifth inning. McKoy was thrown out attempting to steal second base by Knight catcher Dawson Bryan, and Priest was tagged out at the plate attempting to score on a wild pitch as Bryan tossed to pitcher Sam West.

Meares then raced home with the go-ahead run.

The Eagles broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fourth inning. Drew Sholar reached base on an error and came around to score as Greyson Clark and Rasean McKoy reached base on errors.

West Bladen tied the game in the top of the fifth as Lucas Williams reached base on an error, advance on a passed ball and raced home when Bryan belted a single.

Sholar pitched the first 3 scoreless innings for East Bladen and allowed one hit and 3 walks while striking out five. Brady Hollingsworth relieved Sholar and pitched two innings to pick up the win, allowing an unearned run on one hit while striking out six.

Makhi Cromartie pitched a scoreless sixth to get the save, giving up a walk and a hit while striking out two.

Jay McKoy batted 2-2 and collected the only Eagle hits. Sholar and Meares scored a run each.

Sam West pitched all 5 innings for the Knights and allowed 2 unearned runs on 2 hits and 4 walks while striking out one.

Bryan delivered the run-scoring single, Williams doubled and scored a run and Mason Woodell yanked a single to left for the other West Bladen hit.

East Bladen finished the season with a 13-1 record. The Eagle jayvees won their last 12 games after a loss to South Columbus in their second game of the year.
