ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen snapped a 5-5 tie with a 3-run, 4th inning then held on for an 8-7 non-conference jayvee baseball victory over West Columbus Wednesday.

Darius Williamson hammered a 1-out triple to start the winning rally. Weston Hatcher knocked in Williamson with a single. Hatcher stole 2nd base then raced home when Parker Greene belted a single. Lee Barnes knocked in Greene with a single for an 8-5 Eagle lead.

An error and a pair of Viking hits produced 2 runs and trimmed the margin to 8-7 in the 5th inning, before a line drive to secondbaseman Nathan Howell was turned into a double play that ended the threat.

Barnes pitched the final 2.1 innings to pick up the win for East Bladen allowing 2 unearned runs on 3 hits. Britt Sasser started and worked 2 innings on the hill for the Eagles allowing a run on 2 walks and 2 hits while striking out three. Jake Futrell pitched 0.2 innings of relief and gave up 4 runs on 5 walks and 2 hits.

After the Vikings scored a 1st inning run, the Eagles answered with 3 runs in the home first. Marlen Davis led off with a single, stole a base and raced home on Tyler Johnson’s single. Johnson stole a base and dashed home on Greene’s single. Barnes walked, and Carson Gooden laced a single that scored Greene.

Howell drew a 2nd inning walk, and Davis cracked a single. Johnson lifted a sacrifice fly that brought home Howell for a 4-1 East lead.

The Vikings used 5 walks and 2 hits to scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning and vault in front 5-4.

Barnes walked in the Eagle 3rd, stole a base and scored on an infield out to tie the game 5-5.

Greene finished 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Hatcher batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, and Davis finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Williamson walloped the triple and scored a run.

Barnes singled, walked twice, scored a run and had an RBI. Johnson contributed a single, run scored and a RBI. Gooden singled home a run, Sasser belted a single, and Howell walked and scored a run.

Coach Kenzil McCall’s Eagles improved to 2-0 on the season and will host South Columbus Tuesday at 4 p.m.
