East Bladen High SchoolWHITEVILLE – Freshmen Freddie Wooten and Zach Meares combined to strike-out nine batters and pitch East Bladen to an 8-4 jayvee baseball victory over Whiteville Wednesday in Three Rivers Conference action.

Wooten pitched the first 3 scoreless innings, striking out 4 batters and hitting one. Meares struck out five in his 2 innings of work and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits and 5 walks.

The Eagles jumped in front 5-0 in the first inning. Jay McKoy reached base on a fielder’s choice and raced home when Meares belted a single. Meares stole 2 bases and raced home on a passed ball.

Wooten and freshman Brady Hollingsworth drew walks. Xavier McKoy knocked in Wooten with a double, and Hollingsworth dashed home on a passed ball. Freshman Garrett Melvin’s fielder’s choice plated Xavier McKoy.

Freshman Rasean McKoy started the fourth inning with a single and stole second base. Jay McKoy smacked a single that scored Rasean McKoy. Meares hammered a double that scored Jay McKoy, and Wooten blasted a triple that scored Meares and put East ahead 8-0.

Meares batted 2-2 with a double, 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored to lead the Eagle hitters. Wooten slugged the rbi triple, and Xavier McKoy slammed the rbi double.

Jay McKoy singled and scored 2 runs. Rasean McKoy and Mahki Cromartie added a single each for the winners.

The Eagles will host South Columbus Friday.
