ELIZABETHTOWN — Rodney Lacewll and Andrew Musselwhite each drove home two runs and Lee Barnes retired the final six batters he faced as the East Bladen junior varsity baseball team defeated St. Pauls 9-6 on Thursday at Russell Priest Field.

The game was stopped after 3½ innings because of the time limit.

The Eagles JVs improved to 5-0 in Southeastern Athletic Conference game and 7-1 overall. The team is idle over the Easter break and will return to play April 26 against Midway.

Barnes entered in the second inning in relief of starter Na’Toren Corbett with the bases loaded and East Bladen holding a 6-4 lead. He allowed a two-run single to Daniel Sinclair that tied it, but Sinclair was thrown out by center fielder Chase Butler trying to reach second base.

The Eagles offense regained the lead in the bottom of the second with three runs. Barnes walked, Bray Heustess was hit by a pitch and Corbett walked to load the bases with one out. Musselwhite followed with a walk that put East Bladen ahead 7-6. After the second out, Butler singled for another run and Aiden Hargrove walked to account for the final run.

East Bladen scored six runs in the first inning, highlighted by Lacewell’s single that drove home the first two runs of the game. Musselwhite singled later in the inning for another run.

Lacewell led the East Bladen offense, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs batted in. Musselwhite and Butler each had a hit. Barnes and Heustess each scored twice. Caleb Scruggins, Lacewell, Corbett, Musselwhite and Maliki Moore each scored a run. Butler and Hargove also had RBIs.
