RED SPRINGS – A four-run fifth inning rally propelled Red Springs to a 9-4 Three Rivers Conference jayvee baseball victory over West Bladen Monday.

Two errors, two hits and a passed third strike keyed the Red Devil rally in the fifth that turned a 3-2 lead into a 7-2 advantage.

The Knights grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Freshman Josh Russ raked a single past third, moved up on freshman Bryley Williams’ sacrifice bunt and raced home on sophomore Andrew Pait’s fielder’s choice.

Red Springs tied the game on 3 walks and a passed ball in the home second.

Freshman Alex Strange ripped a single to left, advanced on an error and scored when freshman Alex Brisson lined a single to centerfield for a 2-1 Knight lead.

Pait was hit by a pitch to begin the West Bladen sixth, and freshman Brycen Blackmon walked. Chris Bailey drilled a single to left that loaded the bases. Pait dashed home on a passed ball, and Blackmon scored later to trim the margin to 7-4.

Red Springs tacked on 2 runs in the sixth for the final 9-4 margin.

Strange, Brisson, Russ, sophomore Samuel West, Williams, Bailey and sophomore Kendall Johnson-Pone connected for one hit each. Pait and Brisson drove in runs, and Pait, Blackmon, Russ and Strange scored runs.

Blackmon pitched the first 1.2 innings and allowed a run on 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out one. Russ relieved and gave up an unearned run on a walk and a hit in one inning while striking out one. Brisson pitched the final 3.1 innings and allowed 7 runs – 2 earned – on 5 hits while striking out three.

The Knight jayvees will host Red Springs Tuesday.
