BLADENBORO- A 5-run 3rd inning explosion snapped a 5-5 tie and propelled West Bladen to a 10-5 Southeastern Athletic Conference jayvee baseball victory over Fairmont Wednesday.
Two hits, 2 walks, a hit batter and an error produced 5 Fairmont runs in the top of the 3rd and knotted the score 5-5. Ryan Dove was hit by a pitch to start the Knight half of the inning. Jonah Bryan walked and Aiden Russ knocked in Dove with the go-ahead run with a single to left.
Allister Russ and pinch-hitter Caison Brixey drew walks with Brixey’s walk forcing home Bryan. Hunter Hester ripped a single to left that scored Aiden Russ. Catcher Luke Howell raked a single to left that scored Allister Russ and Brixey and grew the Knight lead to 10-5.
Lefthander Tyler Lewis pitched 2.2 innings for West and allowed 4 runs – 2 earned – on 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Hester relieved and worked 1.1 innings to secure the win giving up an unearned run on 1 hit and striking out 3.
Aiden Russ, Allister Russ, Weston Hilburn, Hester and Howell all connected for 1 hit each. Howell and Hilburn had 2 RBIs each. Aiden Russ, Brixey, Hester and Dove had 1 RBI each. Allister Russ scored 2 runs, and Aiden Russ, Lewis, Brixey, Hester, Hilburn, Dove, Chason Harris and Bryan scored 1 run each.
Lewis walked and Hester was hit by a pitch in the Knight 1st inning. Hilburn smoked a single to left that scored Hester. Howell walked, and Dove’s fielder’s choice plated Hester. An error on the play scored Hilburn. Chason Harris, the courtesy runner for Howell, dashed home on a passed ball for a 4-0 West lead.
Allister Russ led off the West 2nd inning with a single. Lewis and Hester drew walks before Hilburn lifted a sacrifice fly to left that scored Allister Russ and padded the Knight lead to 5-0.
Coach Matt Hill’s jayvee Knights have won 5 of their last 6 games to even their record at 3-3 in SAC-7 play and 5-5 overall. West Bladen will host Red Springs on April 18th in their next game.
