BLADENBORO – A 7-run West Bladen 5th inning rally fell a run short as time ran out on the Knights, and East Bladen held on for a 13-12 Southeastern Athletic Conference jayvee baseball victory Friday.

Jayvee teams play with a drop-dead time limit so the varsity game following it can get started by at least 7 p.m. The Knights had the tying run at 1st base when the game was called.

Darius Williamson, Parker Greene and Cole Butler drew walks in the Eagle 1st inning. Williamson dashed home on a wild pitch, and Na’Toren Corbett ripped a double to left field that scored Greene and Butler for a 3-0 lead.

Andre Moore and Garrett Dunham belted 1-out singles in the Knight half of the first. Cade Allen smashed a single to center field, and an error on the play scored Moore. Brady Durden knocked in Dunham with a double to right, and Jordan Hester rapped a single to center that brought in Allen. An error on the play scored Brady Durden to put West ahead 4-3.

Masion Brooks and J’marius Smith smacked singles to begin the Eagle 2nd inning. Caleb Scruggins lashed a double to right that plated Brooks, and Smith scored on Williamson’s fielder’s choice. Greene legged out a single that scored Scruggins, and Kalec Autry singled.

Corbett raked a single to left that scored Greene, and Autry stole home. Lee Barnes walked. Brooks walloped a double to left-center that scored Corbett and Barnes to stretch the Eagle lead to 10-4.

Hezekiah Blanks-Adams led off the Knight 2nd inning with a single to left, and Moore pulled a single past 3rd base. Allen followed with a single to load the bases. Blanks-Adams scored on an error to trim the margin to 10-5.

Brooks walked, and Scruggins swatted a single to left to begin the East Bladen 5th inning. Williamson yanked a single to left that scored Brooks. Greene slapped a single to right that scored Scruggins. Autry lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Williamson and padded the lead to 13-5.

Mason Jones slugged a 1-out single to left to start the West Bladen fifth. Jordan Hester sliced a single to left, and Allister Russ lined a single to left to load the bases. Blanks-Adams drove in Jones with a single to center. Dunham smacked a single to left that scored Hester and Allister Russ.

Allen ripped a double to left that scored Blanks-Adams and Dunham. Aiden Russ was hit by a pitch. Brady Durden poked a single to the right side that scored Allen and whittled the lead to 13-11. Aiden Russ stole home to close the gap to 13-12. That was when the time discussion began and play ended.

Greene batted a perfect 3-for-3, scored 3 runs and had 2 runs batted in to lead the Eagle hitters. Corbett finished 3-4 at the plate with a double, a run scored and 3 RBIs. Brooks was 2-for-2 with a double, 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs.

Scruggins batted 2-for-4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Williamson, Autry, Butler and Smith contributed 1 hit each. Williamson scored 2 runs, and Autry, Butler, Barnes and Smith scored 1 run each. Autry and Williamson had an RBI each.

Barnes started and pitched 4.1 innings for East giving up 8 runs – 7 earned – on 14 hits and a walk while striking out eight. Corbett pitched 0.1 innings and allowed 4 runs on 4 hits while striking out one.

Blanks-Adams started and pitched 1 inning for West giving up 3 runs on 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out three. Allen worked 4 innings of relief allowing 10 runs on 13 hits and 2 walks while striking out three.

Hester turned in a perfect 3-for-3 game at the plate with a run scored and an RBI to lead the Knight hitters. Allen batted 3-for-4 with a double, 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Moore also finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.

Allister Russ batted a perfect 2-for-2 and scored a run. Brady Durden finished 2-for-4 with a double, 2 RBIs and a run scored. Dunham batted 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Blanks-Adams was 2-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Jones singled and scored a run.

Coach Kenzil McCall’s Eagles, now 4-0, will host Whiteville Tuesday. West Bladen (3-2) will entertain Fairmont Tuesday.
