RED SPRINGS – Joshua Russ pitched a 2-hitter, and West Bladen rallied from an early 4-1 deficit to defeat Red Springs 12-6 Tuesday in Three Rivers Conference jayvee baseball action.

Russ allowed 6 runs – 1 earned – on 7 walks and 2 hits while striking out 2 to pick up the victory.

Bryce Fuller walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead. Red Springs turned 2 hits, 2 errors and 2 hit batters into 4 runs and the 4-1 1st inning lead.

Alex Strange yanked a single past 3rd, advanced as Russ reached base on an error then darted home on a passed ball to start the Knight 2nd inning. Fuller lined a single that scored Russ. Elijah Crabtree belted a single, and Michael Young walked to load the bases.

Brycen Blackmon walked to force home Fuller with the tying run. Jordan Bryan ripped a bases-clearing double down the left field line that scored Crabtree, Young and Blackmon and pushed the Knights in front 7-4.

Strange led off the Knight 3rd inning with a single then stole 2nd base. Wadeyn Norris walked, and Strange dashed home as Fuller reached base on a passed 3rd strike. Riley Stanley, the courtesy runner for Norris, scored on an error, and Fuller scooted home on a passed ball for a 10-4 lead.

Strange reached base on an error in the West Bladen 4th inning, and Russ raked a single to left. Norris ripped a single to center field that scored Strange and Aaron Wren, the courtesy runner for Russ.

Two walks and a Knight error helped Red Springs trim the final margin to 12-6 in the home 4th.

Strange batted 2-3 and scored 3 runs to lead the Knight hitters. Bryan delivered the 3-run double. Fuller, Crabtree, Russ and Norris connected for 1 hit each for the winners. Fuller and Norris drove in 2 runs each. Blackmon had 1 runs batted in. Fuller scored 3 runs, and Crabtree, Young, Blackmon, Russ, Wren and Stanley scored 1 run each.

Coach Wade Pait’s Knights evened their TRC record at 1-1 and are 2-1 overall. West Bladen will host Red Springs Friday.
