TEACHEY – Caleb Sholar pitched a complete game and went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles at the plate as the West Bladen junior varsity baseball team defeated Wallace-Rose Hill 12-5 on Friday afternoon in a Four County Conference game.

Sholar scattered six hits, struck out four and walked four and gave up all five runs in the second inning. The Bulldogs sent 10 batters to the plate in the second and collected three of their hits while Sholar walked three batters and the Knights made an error. It was the only error of the game charged to West Bladen.

Ian Sykes reached based on all four plate appearances and scored each time, getting a two-run single, a walk and twice being hit by a pitch. Trey Storms was 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and three runs batted in. Jonathan Robinson was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. T.J. Guyton, Dalton Pait and Cameron Peterson each had a hit.

West Bladen batted around in the first inning, getting hits from Sholar, Storms and Piat, two hit batters and a walk to take a 5-0 lead.

The Knights made it 7-0 in the top of the second. Guyton led off with an infield single, Sykes was hit by a pitch and Sholar was safe on a fielder’s choice to load the bases. Robinson drove in a run on a ground out and Storms followed with a sacrifice fly.

After Wallace-Rose Hill cut it to 7-5 in the bottom of the second, West Bladen regained control with a two-out rally in the third that scored four runs for an 11-5 lead. After the first two batters were retired, Peterson reached on an infield single and went to second on a throwing error. Guyton reached on an error and stole second. Sykes followed with a two-run single to right. Sholar then doubled to left. Robinson drove home Sykes with a single to right. Storms followed with a single that scored courtesy runner Derrick Long.

West Bladen’s final run came in the fifth. Sykes walked, stole second, went to third on a single and scoring on an error.

West Bladen, 4-2 overall and 2-0 in league play, is scheduled to host Heide Trask on Tuesday and Pender on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
