FAIRMONT –Cousins Aiden and Allister Russ teamed up to pitch a 6-hitter and strike out 12 batters as they led West Bladen to a 13-1 Southeastern Athletic Conference jayvee baseball victory over Fairmont Tuesday.
Aiden Russ pitched the 1st 4 innings and allowed a run on 6 hits and no walks while striking out 10. Allister Russ relieved in the 5th inning and worked a perfect 1-2-3 inning with 2 strike-outs.
At the plate Allister Russ walloped 2 triples and batted 3-for-4 with 4 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Teammate Hunter Hester finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Jonah Bryan batted 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored.
Caison Brixey doubled and drove in 2 runs for West. Jackson Smith, Luke Howell, Tyler Lewis and Aiden Russ connected for 1 hit each. Smith and Aiden Russ drove in runs, and Ryan Dove, Lewis, Luke Pait and Aiden Russ scored runs.
Hester ripped a double to center field in the 1st inning to drive in Allister Russ who had reached on an error. Howell led off the Knight 2nd inning with a single, Smith laced a single to left, and Dove walked. Pait, the courtesy runner for Howell, scored to push the lead to 2-0.
Allister Russ pounded a triple to left in the 3rd inning and dashed home on Hester’s sacrifice fly.
Dove reached on an error, and Bryan raked a single to left to start the 4th inning. Allister Russ scorched a single to right that scored Dove and Bryan. Hester was hit by a pitch, and Lewis walked, before Howell reached on an error that scored Allister Russ and Hester for a 7-0 lead.
Bryan cracked a lead-off single in the 5th inning, stole a base and darted home on Aiden Russ’ single. Allister Russ drilled a triple to right that scored Aiden Russ. Hester smacked a single to right that scored Allister Russ.
Lewis rapped a single to center, and Howell walked. Smith walked to force home Hester for an 11-1 lead. Brixey smashed a double to center field that scored Chason Harris, the courtesy runner for Howell, and Smith.
Coach Matt Hill’s Knight jayvees have won 4 of their last 5 games and are now 2-3 in SAC-7 play and 4-5 overall.
