TABOR CITY – West Bladen scored 13 runs in the 1st 2 innings and cruised to a 17-4 non-conference jayvee baseball victory Friday over South Columbus.
Aiden Russ led off the game with a single to center field, and Mason Jones and Hunter Hester drew walks. Weston Hilburn’s fielder’s choice forced out Aiden Russ, Tyler Lewis walked to force home Jones. Allister Russ reached base on an error that scored Hester.
Jackson Smith reached base on an error that plated Hilburn, and Ryan Dove raked a single to shortstop that scored Lewis, and Allister Russ raced home on the throw. Aiden Russ lifted a sacrifice fly to center that brought home Smith for a 6-0 West lead.
An error, Briar Johnson’s triple and Drake Ward’s single plated a trio of Stallion runs in the home half of the first.
Hester walked, but was forced out by Hilburn’s fielder’s choice to start the 2nd inning. Lewis hammered a double to right, and Allister Russ ripped a single to left that scored Caison Brixey, the courtesy runner for Hilburn. Smith smacked a single that scored Lewis, and Jonah Bryan reached on an error that plated Allister Russ.
Aiden Russ reached on an error that scored Smith. Jones drilled a single to left that brought home Bryan. Hester reached on an error that scored Aiden Russ and Jones and stretched the lead to 13-3.
Allister Russ yanked a single to left and Smith walked to start the Knight 3rd inning. Allister Russ scored on an error to boost the lead to 14-3.
Chason Harris slammed a lead-off double to left in the Knight 4th inning. Hester scalded a double to left that scored Harris. Hilburn swatted a single, and Allister Russ knocked in Hester with a single to left. Dove drilled a single to left that scored Brixey, the courtesy runner for Hilburn, and pushed the lead to 17-3.

Allister Russ batted 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBIs to lead the Knight hitters. Dove finished 2-for-4 at the plate with 3 RBIs. Hilburn batted 2-for-4. Harris doubled and scored a run. Hester doubled and scored 2 runs. Lewis smashed the RBI double and scored twice.
Aiden Russ, Jones and Smith had 1 hit each. Jones, Brixey and Smith scored 2 runs each. Aiden Russ and Bryan scored 1 run each. Smith had 2 RBIs, and Jones and Aiden Russ had 1 RBI each.
Jones started on the mound for the Knights and pitched 1 inning allowing 3 runs – 1 earned – on 2 hits and a walk while striking out one. Lewis worked 2 innings of scoreless, hitless relief and struck out two. Hester pitched the final inning and allowed an unearned run on 2 hits.
The jayvee Knights, now 2-4, will host rival East Bladen Tuesday.
