FAIRMONT – Sophomore Aaron Wren pitched a 2-hitter and struck out 12 batters to lead West Bladen to a 7-1 victory over Fairmont Friday in the Three Rivers Conference jayvee baseball opener for both teams.

Wren issued 6 walks and gave up an unearned run in the 6th inning.

Freshman Jamarh Richardson hammered a double to rightfield in the Knight 2nd inning, and freshman Will Durden belted a single. Freshman Nolan Tatum lined a single to centerfield that brought home Richardson. Freshman Cornelius Esters forced out Tatum at 2nd, but sophomore Jordan Underwood drilled a single to center that scored Durden and Esters and put West on top 3-0.

Freshman Jordan Hester reached base on an error to start the Knight 4th inning. Hester advanced on a wild pitch as Esters walked. Underwood roped a liner to center that was misplayed and allowed Hester and Esters to score. Two outs later Underwood scooted home on a passed ball to pad the lead to 6-0.

A walk, an error, and a passed ball produced the Fairmont run in the 6th inning.

Durden walked in the Knight 7th inning, advanced on a passed ball, and raced home when Hester ripped a single through the right side to push the West Bladen lead to 7-1.

Esters batted 2-3 and scored twice to lead the Knight hitters. Richardson doubled and scored a run. Underwood delivered the 2-run single and scored a run. Tatum and Hester connected for run-scoring singles. Durden, Freshman Andre Moore, and sophomore Garrison Carr added 1 hit each. Durden scored 2 runs, and Hester scored a run.

Caden Campbell pitched a complete game for Fairmont, and Elijah Bristow and Donovan Brown had the Tornado hits.

Coach Wade Pait’s Knights, now 3-2 overall, will host Red Springs Tuesday.
