BLADENBORO –Winning pitcher Aiden Russ worked 4 hitless, scoreless innings of relief and struck out 7 batters to lead West Bladen to a 7-3 non-conference jayvee baseball victory over South Columbus Tuesday.

Chason Harris started on the hill for the Knights and pitched 1.1 innings allowing 2 runs on 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 2. Caison Brixey relieved Aiden Russ in the 6th inning and gave up a run on 3 walks. Allister Russ came on in relief to get the final out in the 6th inning.

Aiden Russ cracked a 1st inning single, stole a base and raced home when Weston Hilburn ripped a single to left to put the Knights up 1-0. South answered with 2 runs in the 2nd inning on 3 hit batters, a walk and a sacrifice fly.

Aiden Russ walked, stole a base and scooted home with the tying run when Hunter Hester raked a single to left in the 3rd inning. Hilburn walked, and Tyler Lewis smashed a single to right that scored Hester. Hilburn dashed home on a wild pitch for a 4-2 West lead.

Jonah Bryan and Harris reached on passed 3rd strikes in the 4th inning, and Bryan stole a base then scored on a passed ball for a 5-2 Knight lead.

Hester yanked a single to left to start the West 5th inning and circled the bases on a fielder’s choice and 2 passed balls. Lewis walked and Ryan Dove was hit by a pitch. Lewis went to 3rd on a passed ball and scored as Kasey Nichols reached base on a passed 3rd strike to push the lead to 7-2.

Hester batted 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Aiden Russ, Hilburn and Lewis connected for 1 hit each. Aiden Russ scored twice, and Bryan, Hilburn and Lewis scored 1 run each. Hilburn and Lewis had 1 RBI each.

It was the first win of the season for the jayvee Knights, now 1-4, who will travel to South Columbus Friday.
