West Bladen High School LogoDUBLIN – West Bladen rallied for 8 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Fairmont 9-8 Wednesday in Three Rivers Conference jayvee baseball action.

Fairmont scored single runs in the first and third innings, but Knight freshman Kendall Johnson blasted a triple high off the leftfield fence in the third inning. Freshman Andrew Pait lifted a sacrifice fly to rightfield that scored Johnson and sliced the Fairmont lead to 2-1.

The Tornadoes scored 3 runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take an 8-1 lead into the home fifth.

Lucas Williams slammed a double to left-centerfield to begin the Knight fifth inning. Johnson swatted a single to right-centerfield that scored Williams. Mason Woodell walked, and Andrew Pait was hit by a pitch. Chris Bailey walked to force home Johnson.

Cameron Flowers laced a single to left-centerfield that scored Woodell and Andrew Pait. Sam West and Edgar Garcia drew walks that forced home Bailey. Williams was hit by a pitch to force home Flowers.

An error on Johnson’s grounder scored Sam West and Garcia with the tying and winning runs.

Johnson batted 2-3 with a triple, a run batted in and 2 runs scored. Williams doubled and scored a run. Flowers cracked the 2-run single and scored a run.

Sam West started on the mound for the Knights and was relieved by Jadecus Register. Flowers came on to close out the fifth inning and pick up the win. The Knight trio of pitchers combined to strike out 7 batters.

West Bladen will travel to Red Springs Friday.
