ELIZABETHTOWN – Jacob Nixon poured in 23 points Tuesday to lead East Bladen to a 45-37 victory over South Columbus in junior varsity boys’ basketball action.
Nixon sank 3 free throws and a basket in the opening period, and teammates Peyton Tatum and Malaki Monroe drained 3-point shots as the Eagles edged ahead 11-10.
Nixon blistered the nets with 4 baskets in the 2nd quarter, and Lee Barnes sank a free throw as East padded the lead to 20-18.
Daquan Cox bombed in a trio of 3-point shots in the 3rd quarter to rally the Stallions, but Nixon threw in 2 baskets and 2 free throws, and Monroe drained a 3-point shot and another basket for the Eagles. Barnes dropped in a basket as East Bladen kept a 33-32 lead at the quarter break.

Barnes and Nixon pumped in a basket and 2 free throws each in the final quarter as the Eagles closed the game with a 12-5 run. J’marius Smith tossed in another East basket, and Monroe canned 2 free throws.
Monroe finished with 10 points, and Barnes followed with 7 points for the winners. Cox led the Stallions with 12 points.
Coach Aking Elting’s Eagles improved to 2-1 on the season and will open Three Rivers Conference play Saturday, January 23rd at Whiteville at 12:30 p.m.
