ELIZABETHTOWN — The East Bladen junior varsity boys basketball team rallied from an 11-point deficit midway the third quarter Friday night to defeat Whiteville 30-26 in a non-conference game and remain unbeaten.
The Eagles (4-0) trailed 21-10 with 3:30 remaining in the third quarter following a basket by Whiteville’s Justin Ward.
A basket by Keyshawn Kemp, free throw by Kewone Maynor and 3-point field goal by Shannon Hankins pulled East Bladen within 21-16. Khalil McKoy’s follow off an offensive rebound with 18 seconds remaining in the third quarter brought the Eagles within 22-18 at the end of the quarter.
East Bladen tied it at 24-all with 2:43 remaining in the fourth quarter on Maynor’s steal and layup. The Eagles scored the next five points, then sealed the win on a Maynor free throw with 15 seconds remaining.
Maynor led the Eagles with nine points and Hankins added eight.
East Bladen is scheduled to host South Columbus at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in a non-conference game.
