Demetrius Wooten pumped in 14 points to lead East Bladen to a 37-26 Four County Conference jayvee boys’ basketball victory over West Bladen at East Thursday night.

East Bladen’s Shawn Marshall drained a 3-point shot in the first quarter as the Eagles grabbed an early 6-4 lead. Wooten nailed a 3-pointer in the second period and added another basket as the Eagle lead grew to 15-7.

Wooten drilled the nets with another 3-ball in the third quarter as East maintained a 19-11 lead.

Wooten drove for a lay-up and then sank 2 free throws to keep the Eagle lead at 26-20 midway the final period.

Lay-ups by sophmore John Bowen and Kalvin Page pulled the Knights to within 26-24 with 1:59 remaining.

After a time-out East Bladen threw long over the Knight press to sophmore Chris McKnight who turned a lay-up into a 3-point play.

Messiah Leach canned a free throw to make it 30-24, before Demarius McArthur drove for a lay-up and then put the exclamation point on the win with a slam dunk.

McKnight finished with 8 points for the Eagles, and McArthur and Marshall followed with 5 points each.

Bowen scored 8 of his team-high 12 points for West Bladen in the final quarter. Kalvin Page and Traquan Smith added 4 points each for the Knights.

Coach Michael Hall’s Eagles finish the season with a 6-13 record. The Knights conclude their season with a 6-8 league record and 10-10 overall mark.
