ELIZABETHTOWN – Freshman Majuan McKoy poured in 22 points, and sophmore Pierce Melvin sank 2 clinching free throws as East Bladen’s jayvee boys edged Fairmont 48-47 Wednesday night in a non-conference basketball Endowment game.

Majuan McKoy made 6 of 7 free throws and dropped in a basket in the final quarter that began with East Bladen on top 32-25. Freshman Tayshaun Berkely threw in a pair of baskets, and sophmore Shy Pone added a bucket that kept the Eagles ahead 46-44 when Melvin was fouled with 10 seconds remaining.

Melvin sank 2 free throws to stretch the lead to 48-44 and enable the Eagles to withstand a Tornado 3-point basket with 2 seconds left.

Anthony Wooten finished with 8 points for the Eagles, and Pone followed with 7 points. Berkely totaled 6 points.

Majuan McKoy netted a basket and 2 free throws in the first quarter, and Wooten added a basket to keep the Eagles within 7-6. In the second period, Berkely and Wooten popped in a basket each, and Majuan McKoy hit 2 free throws as East Bladen pulled even 12-12 at the half.

Majuan McKoy lit up the scoreboard with a trio of baskets and 2 free throws to key a 20-13 third quarter surge that carried the Eagles to the 32-25 lead. Pone buried a 3-point shot and another basket in the period, and Wooten chipped in with 2 more baskets. Joshua McKoy added a basket, and Wilson Bolden made a free throw.

Coach Greg High’s Eagles improved to 9-4 with the win and will travel to Midway Friday night.
