ELIZABETHTOWN – Kohnner Oxendine fired in six 3-point shots and scored 20 points to lead Red Springs to a 43-35 Southeastern Athletic Conference jayvee basketball victory over East Bladen Thursday.

Shannon Hankins bombed in a pair of 3-point shots and hit 2 free throws to spark the Eagles to an early 12-8 lead. Teammates Zac Metz and center Rodney Lacewell dropped in baskets in the opening period.

Sherman Long drained a 3-point shot and another basket in the 2nd period to keep the Eagles on top. Chace Butler threw in a basket, and Peyton Tatum cashed in 2 free throws to keep East up 21-18 at halftime.

A trio of Oxendine 3-balls and 3 baskets from Jaylen Rush rallied the Red Devils in the 3rd period. Metz nailed a 3-point shot and another basket, and Tatum tossed in a bucket to keep East within 34-28 at the quarter break.

Oxendine pumped in another 3-ball and 2 free throws in the final period to keep Red Springs in front. Hankins buried another 3-point shot, and Tatum sank 4 free throws for the Eagles in the quarter.

Hankins led the East Bladen scoring with 11 points. Tatum finished with 8 points, and Metz added 7 points.

The Eagles, now 4-3 overall and 1-1 in SAC-7 play, will travel to West Bladen Monday.
