West Bladen’s jayvee boys scored the final 12 points of the game to claim their first basketball victory of the season 32-28 over visiting East Bladen Tuesday night in Four County Conference action.

Freshman Greyson Heustess’ free throw with 5:13 left to play stretched East Bladen’s lead to 28-20, but Drew Harris sank 2 foul shots to begin the Knights’ winning run.

Gerardo Reyes drilled a 3-point shot from the right corner to slice the Eagle lead to 28-25. Freshman Kerron Washington drove the baseline for a lay-up that whittled the margin to 28-27with 2:01 on the clock.

Jaheim Lesane tied the game with a free throw with 1:19 remaining. Washington canned two foul shots at the 1:01 mark to edge West in front 30-28.

After the teams traded turnovers and missed free throws, East missed a follow shot with 5 seconds left, and Reyes was fouled and iced the game with 2 free throws with 2 seconds left.

Washington topped the West Bladen scoring with 8 points, and Reyes totaled 7 points. Lesane finished with 5 points for the Knights, and Harris and Nhyki Richardson added 4 points each.

Guard Messiah Leach led the Eagle scoring with 8 points, and center Zaire Turner-Dobson dropped in 6 points. Teammate Deondre Newkirk chipped in with 4 points.

Leach turned a steal into a lay-up and bombed in a 3-pointer, and Anthony Wooten pumped in a 3-point shot as East took the early lead. Washington and Reyes drove for lay-ups as the Knights pulled to within 8-6 at the corner break.

Richardson flipped in a runner, and Lesane made 2 free throws as the Knights edged ahead 10-8, but Leach bombed in a 3-pointer for an 11-10 Eagle lead.

Luis Labre nailed 2 free throws for a 12-11 West lead, but Turner-Dobson and Xavier Wooten answered with lay-ups for East, and teammate Darrell Banks stole the ball and raced for a lay-up and a 17-12 Eagle lead.

Two free throws by Washington pulled West to within 17-14 at halftime.

Two inside baskets each by Turner-Dobson and Newkirk stretched the East lead to 23-15, but Jason Moore spun to the basket for a lay-up, and Lesane banked in a runner that kept West within 27-19 at the quarter break.

Coach Taurius Baker Knights will host Union Friday night, while East Bladen will entertain Midway Friday night.
