TABOR CITY – West Bladen’s Knights raced to a 15-6 first quarter lead en route to a 33-22 Three Rivers Conference jayvee boys basketball victory over South Columbus Tuesday.

Javontae Matthews drained a 3-point shot and another basket to lead the early Knight spurt. Keshawn Ballard and Travail Baldwin tossed in a basket and a free throw each, Josiah Brown sank 2 free throws, and Anthony Mitchell pumped in a basket in the first quarter.

Jordan Underwood dashed to the rim for a basket and a free throw, Anthony Cowan popped in a field goal, Ballard cashed in 2 free throws, and Matthews hit a free throw as the Knight lead grew to 23-11.

Brown buried a 3-point shot, and Matthews and Cowan threw in baskets as the Knight lead stretched to 30-13, before the Stallions trimmed the margin to 30-20 at the third quarter break.

Underwood netted a final quarter basket, and Mitchell tacked on a free throw.

Matthews topped the Knight scoring list with 8 points. Underwood, Ballard and Brown finished with 5 points each.

Coach Jason Hemingway’s Knights, now 8-10 on the season, will host St. Pauls Wednesday night.
