CERRO GORDO – Connor Monroe posted a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds Friday night to lead West Bladen to a 41-36 non-conference jayvee boys’ basketball victory over West Columbus.
Knight center Tyleak Ballard pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, blocked 5 shots and tallied 7 points. Teammate Elijah McCollum pumped in 10 points, and Cade Allen added 4.
Monroe drained a 3-point shot and 2 other baskets to key an 11-2 Knight run that produced a 15-10 halftime lead. McCollum fired in a trio of baskets in the 3rd quarter to keep West Bladen up 30-22.
Four more points from McCollum, a basket and a free throw from Ballard and a pair of buckets from Monroe and Allen kept the winners in front in the final quarter.
Tony Jordan led the Vikings with 12 points, and Waylend Owens followed with 10 points.
Coach Matt Hill’s Knights evened their record at 3-3 and will open Southeastern Athletic Conference play Friday at Clinton.
