DUBLIN – Freshman Tyre Boykin poured in 25 points Wednesday night to lead West Bladen’s jayvee boys to their first win of the season 50-46 over Pender in Four County Conference basketball action.

West Bladen led 37-30 after 3 periods. Freshman Logan West bombed in a 3-point shot, and Jason Moore dropped in a basket for the Knights in the final quarter, but the Patriots rode a 14-7 surge to tie the game 44-44.

Boykin drove for a lay-up and a 3-point play to edge the Knights ahead 47-44 with 25 seconds left to play. Sophmore Kerron Washington sank 2 free throws with 15 seconds remaining to pad the lead to 49-44. Pender cut the margin to 49-46, but a Washington free throw with 3 seconds on the clock sealed the victory.

Jaheim Lesane tossed in a pair of baskets, and Boykin drained a 3-point shot as the Knights took an early 9-7 lead. Boykin delivered another 3-point shot and 3 free throws, and freshman Tre’shawn Ballard added a basket and a free throw that kept West Bladen up 18-17 at halftime.

Boykin blistered the nets with 3 baskets, another 3-point shot and a trio of free throws in the third quarter. Washington and Lesane threw in baskets in the quarter, and Kristawn Baldwin buried a 3-point shot for the Knights.

Boykin dished out 6 assists and made 8 of 11 free throws. Washington finished with 8 points. Lesane followed with 6 points. Center Jason Moore pulled down 10 rebounds to lead West Bladen on the boards.

Coach Taurius Baker’s Knights improved to 1-2 in conference play.
