CERRO GORDO – West Columbus grabbed an early 11-5 lead and held on for a 33-28 jayvee boys basketball victory over East Bladen Wednesday.

East Bladen’s Corey Robbins tossed in a basket and a free throw in the 1st quarter, then added another basket and a free throw in the 2nd period. Jacob Nixon netted a basket in the 1st quarter, and popped in 2 more baskets in the 2nd period. Peyton Tatum dropped in a basket to keep the Eagles within 18-14 at halftime.

Eagle freshman Lee Barnes lit up the scoreboard by pouring in a 3-point shot, 2 more baskets and 2 free throws to pull East Bladen to within 26-23 at 3rd quarter break.

Malaki Monroe bombed in a 3-point shot in the final period for East, and Nixon delivered another basket.

Barnes topped the Eagle scorers with 9 points. Nixon finished with 8 points, and Robbins tallied 6 points. Unique Kelly led the Vikings with 12 points, and J. Bellamy followed with 10 points.

East Bladen, now 1-1, will host South Columbus Tuesday at 3 p.m.
