ELIZABETHTOWN – West Columbus made 9 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter to pull out a 36-31 Three Rivers Conference jayvee boys basketball victory over East Bladen Wednesday night.
The Vikings held a slim 25-24 lead after three periods then salted the game away at the foulline.
A’Tayveous Ward and Zach Meares dropped in first quarter baskets, and Charles Brown sank 2 free throws as the Eagles edged in front 7-6.
Meares nailed a 3-point shot and another basket in the second period as the Eagles maintained a 13-12 halftime lead.
Mahki Cromartie threw in a pair of third quarter baskets, Meares buried another 3-point shot and Brown tossed in a basket and 2 free throws to keep East within 25-24 at the quarter break.
Jacob Priest popped in a basket and a free throw for East in the final period. Cromartie sank 2 free throws, and Donevin Keith added a basket.
Meares topped the Eagle scoring list with 10 points. Cromartie finished with 7 points, and Brown followed with 6 points.
The Eagles, now 3-2 in league play, will return to action January 2nd against St. Pauls.
