DUBLIN – Sophmore Dashawn Hines scored 3 touchdowns Thursday night to lead West Bladen to a 26-16 Three Rivers Conference jayvee football victory over Red Springs.

Hines squirted loose from a pair of tacklers and darted into the end zone from 3 yards out for the first Knight touchdown with 4:07 left in the first quarter. The conversion failed and West Bladen led 6-0.

In the second quarter Hines popped through the line, veered left and raced 68 yards for a Knight touchdown. Sophmore Nyjae Tate carried into the end zone for the 2-point conversion and a 14-0 West lead with 6:57 left in the half.

West Bladen freshman Shy’Ron Adams stopped the next Red Springs drive by intercepting a pass with 3:30 remaining in the half.

The Red Devils threatened again on their next possession, but Adams picked off another pass and scooted 95 yards down the right sideline for a touchdown on the last play of the half to stretch the Knight lead to 20-0.

Red Springs sliced the margin to 20-8, but Hines grabbed the ensuing kick-off, slipped free of a couple of tackles and sprinted 65 yards for his third touchdown of the night and a 26-8 lead.

The Red Devils closed the gap to 26-16 in the third period and mounted a couple of scoring threats in the final period. Red Springs was stopped on downs on the first possession then reached the Knight 32 yardline in the final minute before a leaping interception by Hines at the 23 yardline clinched the victory.

Coach Taurius Baker’s Knights are now 2-0 in league play and will travel to East Columbus Thursday night.
