ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen’s Eagles were stopped short of the goal line on a 2-point conversion attempt in overtime as Whiteville escaped with a 44-42 Three Rivers Conference jayvee football victory Thursday night.
Whiteville had the first possession in the overtime period and scored a touchdown and the conversion to take a 44-36 lead. Sophomore Timothy McLean ran in the Eagle touchdown that trimmed the margin to 44-42.
McLean scored three of the Eagle touchdowns in regulation. Sophomore Cory Ballard ran in another East Bladen touchdown and scored a pair of 2-point conversions. Sophmore Nazire Smith caught a 2-point conversion pass from freshman quarterback Jacob Nixon.
“McLean ran for a bunch of yards tonight,” said Eagle Coach Ritchie Priest. “It was a good game. I was really proud of my guys. They played well.”
The Eagles, now 1-2 overall, will travel to South Columbus next Thursday.Share:
